IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kimberly
Cunningham
March 6, 1956 – February 24, 2025
Kimberly Ann Cunningham, 68, of Tampa, FL, passed away on February 24, 2025. Born on March 6, 1956, in Cincinnati, OH, to Byron and Carol Hood, Kim graduated from Bowie High School in Bowie, Maryland, in 1974. She went on to earn an associate's degree in criminal justice from Oklahoma City Community College, followed by a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and sociology from the University of Central Oklahoma.
Kim married David James Cunningham on April 5, 1976. Together, they shared a life full of love and commitment until his passing in 2007. She was also preceded in death by her father, Byron Hood. She is survived by her children, David Erick (Tanya) Cunningham, Cara Marie (Steve) Gluck, and Michael Byron (Brooks) Cunningham; her grandchildren, Andrew Medina, David Ian Cunningham, Jordyn and Parker Gluck, and Kinsley, Camden, and Emerson Cunningham; her mother, Carol (Joe) McReynolds; her siblings, Greg Hood, Cindy Hood (Mary Gremillion), and Doug Hood (Dee); and her brothers-in-law, Mark Torbett (Kim), and Terry Beckman, along with many nieces and nephews.
Kim was enthusiastic, determined, and tenacious. She was deeply devoted to her family, her work, and the causes that mattered most to her. Her love for reading and animals, especially her cats, brought her immense joy and comfort. Kim's unwavering commitment to helping others was evident in her work as a Guardian ad Litem, where she made a lasting impact on the lives of many children. After retiring in 2022, she continued to support children through the program. Kimberly also volunteered with the Hillsborough County Office of Elections and the Friends of the Library, always giving her time and energy to causes close to her heart.
Her passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of her children and all who knew her. Kim's legacy of love, service, and compassion will live on in the many lives she touched. She will be remembered for her strength, kindness, and the deep dedication she had to her family and community.
A celebration of Kim's life will be held later. The family invites friends and loved ones to join them in honoring her memory when the details are finalized.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Voices for Children of Tampa Bay, an organization that was near and dear to Kimberly's heart, where your support will help provide invaluable funding to support and advocate for abused, neglected, and abandoned children in the foster system to ensure they have the resources and enrichment opportunities they need to feel safe, loved, and cared for.
