Obituary

FOSTER, Kenneth 79, of Dover passed peacefully to be with his loved ones in heaven on Sunday, January 21 st , 2018.  Kenneth will be lovingly remembered by his survivors including his wife of 56 years, Barbara, his children, Nancy Reagan, Kenneth (Pam) Foster II, Steven (Marion) Foster and Matthew (Beth) Foster, 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings include Vernon Foster, Lyman "Pete" Foster, Charlene Wayman and Diane Slicer. Kenneth was born in Clay County, AK to humble beginnings as one of eight children. After graduating from Broseley High School he served in the US Army and the Ohio National Guard and was honorably discharged as a Missileman Specialist (SP4) in 1965. He married the love of his life, Barbara, in 1960 who blessed him with four children. Self-employed for most of his adult life, he started in title insurance and home building in Eastlake, Ohio.  He also was elected as the president of the Willoughby-Eastlake Board of Education in Willoughby, OH. The 1970's recession led him to relocate his family to Brandon, Florida in 1974. Starting with just fifty dollars and determination, he founded Ken Foster, Inc. which remains a successful construction and real estate business.  In the mid 1980's, his vision of building an office/warehouse park for small businesses like his own was realized. Success followed success and he went on to develop many other projects in the Tampa/Brandon area and become a recognized expert in his field. In addition to holding active licenses as a State of Florida Certified General Contractor, Underground Utilities Contractor, Roofing Contractor and Real Estate Broker, Kenneth was involved in many civic, charitable and professional organizations throughout his career including the Temple Lodge #28 of Free & Accepted Masons, the Brandon Shrine Club, the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce (Board of Directors 1996-1999), the Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce, the Construction Specifications Institute (President 1985-1987), the Hillsborough Metropolitan Planning Organization, the Rotary Club of Brandon and the Rotary Club of East Tampa. He also served on Local Board #29 of the Selective Service System and the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee. Kenneth and Barbara traveled the world together and had adventures on five continents. They were guests of military leaders, corporate executives and politicians but Kenneth was always able to relate to everyone, even those in the humblest of work or circumstances. He always had a story to tell and would always remember the stories of others. Kenneth left this world with no regrets and leaves behind a loving family who will hold his memory in our hearts forever. A visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Monday, 1/29/18 at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home located at 6919 Providence Rd., Riverview, FL 33578.
