Kenneth Ameir affectionately known as "Percy" was born on May 24th, 1947, in Mona Commons, Jamaica to Joseph and Lucilda Ameir. He was the first son of nine siblings, who grew up together on 8 Manley Avenue in St. Andrew. He attended Providence Primary school, then onto Papine Senior school. After graduating, he began working at Andrew's Tailoring where he learned the trade of tailoring. After the unexpected death of his father Kenneth assumed the role as of head of his family and helped his mother to raise his younger siblings.
In 1964, he met the love of his life, Marjorie Sukie aka (his "Beef"). It was love at first sight, and after a two-year courtship Kenneth and Marjorie made the commitment of marriage on January 9th, 1966. Together they raised five children, Yvette (Ralph), Nadine (Mark), Tasleem, Arlene (Shem), and Everton. Kenneth was a kind and generous person, he valued the love of his family, and he continuously nurtured the foundation he built together with Marjorie. He valued the love of his children and grandchildren, and he vigorously protected the friendships he built along the way.
In 1980, with dreams of a brighter future, Kenneth and Marjorie bravely set course for the United States with the goal of establishing a home for his family. Upon entering the United States, Kenneth was reunited with his sister Olga who had migrated years prior, and set up residence in the Bronx, New York. Together with Marjorie, he created a nurturing haven for his children, extended family and friends. Kenneth obtained employment as a furrier in New Jersey where he worked for 10 years. Thereafter, he gained employment at Lincoln Square Pawnbrokers in Manhattan until his retirement. During his off hours and weekends, Kenneth worked as a tailor from the home. Kenneth's work ethic was unparalleled. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family, laboring with strength and defying limits of day and night, he balanced the roles of a dedicated, devoted loving husband, father, and brother. He was a steadfast provider with phenomenal grace and determination to make sure that his family is comfortable and happy. In the face of life's challenges, he remained an anchor with love and grace that he freely gave.
Kenneth was a devout family man whose dedication to love and family extended beyond his immediate family, to include his extended family as well as friends. Kenneth never missed an opportunity to celebrate important milestones of his loved ones. His presence was always jovial and joyful, and he always had a joke to tell which made him the life of the party. Despite the breadth of his family, Kenneth always made each and everyone feel cherished in their own special way. Kenneth was an avid cricket fan and loved playing the sport. He was a member of the University Youth Club in Jamaica. Kenneth had a competitive spirit and enjoyed playing dominoes, ludi and poker with friends and family.
On October 5th, 2025, Kenneth gained his wings. He is reunited with his parents, Joseph and Lucilda, his sisters, Myrtle, Olga, Deserine, and Lurline, and other loved ones.
Kenneth leaves behind a vibrant legacy that lives on through his wife Marjorie and his five children, as well as siblings, Linneth, Beverly, Linda and Vivian. Kenneth's influence extends to his twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and a constellation of relatives and friends who were touched by his enduring spirit and love.
