Obituary

Kay Fenton McMaster 82, a longtime resident of Brandon, Florida, passed away at home peacefully and at rest on April 28, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Virginia Kenna. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, George Henry. Her children, Kim, Jill and Shari; granddaughters; great grandsons; sister Sally and brother Hal.

Kay was born in St. Louis, Missouri. She attended high school in Chicago and graduated valedictorian.  Her high school friendships continued and at her 50th high school reunion, she also enjoyed celebrating her 48th anniversary with her beloved George.

While attending DePauw University, Kay was a member of the Alpha chapter of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She received a teaching certificate which helped enable her to create a loving/learning environment for young children. She had the opportunity to read to children through her own program at WGRE an educational radio station in Greencastle, Indiana. Throughout her life she continued to mentor children.

Kay had many interests. Her love of the outdoors and gardening was a shared activity with George and some of Kay's gardening outfits were at best questionable. After 48 years of planting and watching their gardens grow, evening time together on their porch was their special time to relax, talk and gaze at the beauty around them. She also enjoyed the beach, road trips, cruises, reading, crossword puzzles, watching and keeping 'journals' on the stock market, theater productions, board and card games. She valued her special friendships with her dear bridge group of over 45 years. She was a teacher, realtor, antique dealer and an exceptional homemaker.

Family was the most important part of her life. She was so excited and proud to become "Mimi" to her Grands and Great-Grands. Holidays or informal get-togethers would give her opportunity to cook, decorate and share her wonderful talents with all. Even with the devastating illness of ALS her love, wit and humor always shined through.

A private family celebration of Kay's life will be held and family memories shared at Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, Florida. We want to thank Life Path Hospice for their kindness, support and direction.

Tributes in Kay's honor can be sent to: LifePath Hospice, 3010 West Azeele Street, Tampa, FL  33609.
