Obituary

Wheatley, Joseph Egan, 75, of Brandon, FL left this world on September 21, 2017. Joe was a longtime resident of Westfield, New Jersey, where he was a letter carrier for 25 years. Joe worked as a crossing guard for the Westfield police department, an aide, a baseball coach at Roosevelt School and a coach at numerous little league baseball, football, and basketball teams. Joe was an Eucharistic Minister at St James Roman Catholic Church in Springfield, NJ and taught in their Confirmation prep program. After retirement Joe dedicated his life's work to the organization Partnership for a Quality Education run by the Archdiocese of NY, whose objective is to mentor and nurture many young men. One particular young men, Julio, became Joe's adoptive son and the person with whom Joe lived life to the fullest. In 2009, Joe relocated to Brandon, FL to be closer to Julio and Julio's family. Joe was an inspirational member of the HOST program at Summerfield Crossings Elementary School, a Hillsborough County Public School. Joe was a die-hard baseball and Boston Red Sox's fan. Joe was preceded in death by a brother Kevin, and a sister Elizabeth. He is survived by a brother John, and his son Julio. Visitation will take place on Saturday, November 11, 2017 from 9:30-10:30am at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home, with a Mass at 11am at St Stephen Catholic Church
