Obituary

Joseph Weimer McCormick, 75, of Riverview, Florida, formerly of Peru, passed away unexpectedly on April 27, 2023. Joe was born on Oct. 18, 1947 to William Chester McCormick and his wife, Charlene (Weimer) in Indianapolis, Indiana. After his father's passing when Joe was four, the family moved to Peru in order to be close to family. Joe graduated from Peru High School in 1966 and went on to study Secondary Education at Purdue University. He continued his studies at Indiana University, from which he received a Master's degree in Education.

He began what was to be a 45 year career at Peru Community Schools in 1970. He taught 8th grade U. S History and, in the summer, Driver's Education and High School Social Studies classes. He was a Junior Honor Society and Student Council sponsor, as well as a coach for many
years.

Joe married his soulmate, Patty, on May 25, 2002 in Peru. She survives. Also surviving are, son Justin (Tricia) McCormick, daughter Jenifer (Hank) Ricketts, step-son Nicholas (Heather) Stewart, step-daughter Marisa (Chris) Porter; grandchildren Christopher,
Logan and William McCormick, Claire and Kate Ricketts, Taylor Stewart, Kennedy Stewart, Hayden Porter; his sister, Anne Duvall, brother Bill McCormick and his fur babies, Noel and Maggie.
Joe was preceded in death by his father William McCormick, his mother Charlene Moore, and his step-father James Moore.

Joe's passion was travel. He sponsored many adult and student trips to Europe. After retirement in 2015, he and Patty traveled to China, Australia, the Panama Canal, the Caribbean, and Alaska and so many more locations throughout the U.S and the world. He enjoyed meeting
everyone and because of that, he had friends around the globe. He was a member of South Shore United Methodist Church in Riverview, Florida, where he was a volunteer for the weekly Backpack program. He enjoyed a blessed life and is now with his Lord and Savior and Heavenly family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 10, 2023 at South Shore United Methodist Church in
Riverview, Florida. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

Arrangements are being handled by Serenity Meadows Funeral Home in Riverview, Florida.
