IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph V.
Long Jr.
June 19, 1944 – June 1, 2025
Joseph V. Long, Jr. (Joe) went home to be with our Lord on June 1, 2025 in Sun City Center, Florida at the age of 80. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing.
Joe is survived by his wife, Linda Brown Long; son, Jason T. Long and his wife Gisela Armbruster; daughter, Giovanna Long Piazza and her husband Mike Piazza; grandchildren, Justin A. Long and Madison E. Long. He is also survived by four granddogs, Oliver, Buddy, Hank, and Ruby.
Born on June 19, 1944 in Syracuse, New York, Joe graduated from Liverpool High School and attended Pennsylvania Military College. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda Brown, and they enjoyed almost 61 years of marriage together.
Joe started his career as a skilled carpenter and tradesman while building houses for his father's company, Long Construction; he then struck out on his own to form Barason Construction as a sole proprietor. His work ethic and workmanship were hard to match. Joe eventually changed careers to work at the John Deere Parts Distribution warehouse in Syracuse, NY, from which he retired in 2004 after 25 years of service. He and Linda moved to Florida in 2012 where they enjoyed southern living.
As an active member of the Liverpool High School Warriors Marching Band Boosters from 1982 through 1987, Joe enthusiastically supported his children as they traveled and competed in local and national band competitions.
Joe served as a member of the Syracuse Pistol Club board of directors. He was a skilled marksman, participating in club and regional target shooting competitions with his son, Jason. He used his construction and carpentry skills to help improve the club, including heading up a range improvement project.
Always seeing the humor in daily life, Joe was quick to make a funny remark or tell a joke. He loved silly comedy movies.
Joe was a gentle, caring, loving man who deeply loved his family and friends. He was an optimist who believed that "everything will work out." He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
There will be no calling hours - all are welcome to remember Joe's life in their own way. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The American Heart Association in Joe's memory.
