Obituary

John Charles Sherman

August 16, 1948 – September 3, 2025

John Charles Sherman, deeply beloved second son among eight siblings, passed away on September 3, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and community spirit.

Born on August 16, 1948, John spent his early years shuttling between the landscapes of upstate New York and the sunshine of Florida. In 1966, he graduated from Hillsborough High School, where he marched proudly in the school band.

John pursued both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education from the University of South Florida, forging the foundation for a remarkable career in teaching and leadership. He began his vocation at Eisenhower Middle School in 1970, later becoming a math teacher at Brandon High School, where he also inspired students as Dean of the night school. Ultimately, John's passion and steadfast commitment led him to become Principal at South County, where he nurtured both students and educators alike.

In recognition of his service, a street in Ruskin was named John Sherman Way, now home to the South County Career Acceleration Academy — a lasting tribute to his impact.

John's vibrant spirit could be felt far beyond classrooms. Known for his infectious gentle kindness and steadfast generosity, he carved out special times for the things he loved — fishing, golfing, and most importantly, being with family. Whether spending time at Camp Mack in Lake Wales or casting lines in serene waters, John found joy in every moment by the lake.

He is survived by his sisters, Patty Denson and Mary Ernest, and cherished nieces and nephews who will forever carry his warmth in their hearts. He was preceded in death by siblings Jim, Ray, Donald, Ronald Sherman, and Jackie Alison.

Though his passing was sudden and unforeseen, the void left behind only amplifies the depth of his love and the breadth of his influence. John will be remembered always as an exceptional teacher, devoted leader, loving family man, and beacon of generosity. His legacy — one of service, joy, and compassion — will continue to inspire all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Voodoo Brewing Company in Valrico, Florida. All who knew and loved John are welcome to join in honoring his life.
