Owens, John R., 74, of Riverview, passed away on June 6, 2016. John proudly served in the US Marines. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Florida State University and his Master's from the University of Florida. He worked for many years for the Hillsborough County School Board, serving as a teacher, administrator and a principal; he was proud to have the John R Owens Gymnasium at Eisenhower Middle School in Gibsonton, FL named after him. John is survived by his loving family, wife of 34 years, Betty Owens; daughter, Kerri Owens of Riverview, FL; grandchildren, Evan, Jake, and Luke of Riverview, FL; nephew, John Owens of San Antonio, TX, niece, Elizabeth Owens of San Antonio, TX; brother-in-law, Bobby (Angie) Gilliam of Scottsville, KY; and sister-in-law, Huberta (Stevie) Blankenship of Scottsville, KY. There will be a visitation on Saturday, June 11, 2016 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm.
