John O'Brien (91) passed away on August 18, 2021 at Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center.

John was born in New York City and was a New York City Police Department (NYPD) officer for 20 years. He retired from NYPD in 1972 as a sergeant, after which he moved with his wife and three children to Brandon, Florida.

He was a health enthusiast that enjoyed long walks, swimming, and photography. He was also an avid reader, politically active, and an advocate for abused animals.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Anne O'Brien, his son, Gerard O'Brien, his parents, John and Sara O'Brien, and his sister, Marion McParland.

John is survived by his beloved family which includes his son, Kevin O'Brien, his daughter, Patricia McConnell, and his granddaughter, Sabreena McConnell, as well as his dogs that brought him much comfort in his final days.

A memorial service and internment of ashes will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021 from 10 AM-12 PM at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home, Riverview Florida.
