McDonough, John Roger, 88, of Brandon, passed away on February 8, 2011. Roger was born in Fork Union, VA on November 8, 1922. He proudly served with the 277th Combat Engineer Battalion as a First Lieutenant in the US Army. He was a graduate of Harvard Class of 1944 with a BA in Biochemistry, then received his MD from the Medical College of Virginia. Roger "Mac" retired after being a physician for 32 years from Eastman Kodak Corporation in Kingsport, TN. He was a well-respected physician with his primary focus on occupational medicine. He contributed to the initial development of safety guidelines for OSHA, thus improving workplace safety. After his retirement, he moved to St. Petersburg in 1988 where he enjoyed fishing, and spending time with his family. He had a kind, caring demeanor and was a loving father. His wife, Syble McDonough and his sister, Jane Flynn precede him in death. Left to celebrate Rogers life are his sons, Roger Lee McDonough, his wife Meg of Sarasota and Tom McDonough, his wife Lisha and son Scott of Plant city; also Rogers sister Nancy Satterfield of Morehead City NC. A private memorial will be held with family members. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Delaney Creek Lodge for their wonderful care of Roger.
