Mayhall, John E., 93, of Riverview, died on April 21, 2016. He is survived by his son, Walter (JoAnn); daughter, Karen (Gary); sister, Harriet; nieces, Brenda, Debra, and Carmen; nephews, Tadao, Arturo, and Lloyd; grandchildren, Susan (Michael), Tanya (Sean), John (Rachel), and Amanda (Bradley); great-grandchildren, Victoria, Michaela, Ryan, Trenton, John II, and Geoffrey. He was a proud Navy veteran and served in WWII. John E. Mayhall was a man of few words. He cared little for small talk but had no qualms about speaking his mind. He had a fierce love for his family expressed quietly in everyday interactions. He fought for his country as a Machinist's Mate, First Class during World War II in Japan and hitchhiked home when he arrived stateside to surprise his wife on Christmas day. After his Navy service, he traveled the world working as a construction engineer. One could easier ask him the countries that he had not visited than the ones he had. He loved photography and took pictures everywhere he visited so he could share his experiences with his friends and family. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and would never turn down a good meal. He was raised on hard work but he also had an unparalleled sense of humor - both of which he passed down to the generations after him. He was a wealth of information and pursued knowledge his whole 93 years. He was always reading, mostly about antique tools and engines, which afforded him a deep knowledge of how the world works. He volunteered at Cracker Country for many years making rope during the Florida State Fair and for the school tours. He also made rope at many community events and gave the rope to the children who helped him make it. He left a legacy in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of love, kindness, and devotion. He was an inspiration and everyone's biggest supporter. He lived a full and fascinating life of which we were all blessed to be a part. Our lives will all be dimmer without him, but there is one more star in the sky tonight to light our paths. There will be a graveside service on Monday, May 9, 2016 at 3:00 pm at Serenity Meadows Memorial Park Committal Shelter. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org
