John M. Van Dyke, U.S. Army Colonel Retired, passed into the arms of his Lord on August 7, 2010. He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Helen. Colonel Van Dyke is survived by a daughter, Sue Ann Eisenhard (Rick) of Plant City, two sons, John M. Van Dyke (Rona) of Brandon and Walter T. Van Dyke (Lyn) of Paulsbo, Washington, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Judy Booth (Stan) of Phoenix, Arizona. Colonel Van Dyke was born on July 7, 1923 in Des Moines, Iowa. At the age of 19, he enlisted in the Army as a private and served in World War II and the Korean War. After 27 years on active duty, he retired in 1969 and accepted a position as Fleet Administrator with the City of Tampa. Several years later, he left his job with the city and he and Helen enjoyed a complete retirement so that they could travel and enjoy their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 12, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church in Seffner. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
