Retired Chief Master Sergeant John (Jack) Charles Nelson, US Air Force, of Brandon, FL, He always said, "I want to be ready for the Lord's Glory Train to Heaven, not one second early or a second late", He boarded the train peacefully on Thursday 18 August 2011. Jack was born on September 23, 1942 in Akron, OH. He was a Vietnam veteran and retired in 1988 after 27 years of service as the Special Agent in Charge, Air Force Office of Special Investigations. He earned an AA Degree in Criminal Justice. Jack was awarded the Defense Meritorious Service medal, AF Commendation Medal, AF Achievement Medal, and the AF Outstanding Unit Award w/Valor Device. Upon retirement he began a second career with Walgreens working in Loss Prevention. After three years he became 100% disabled but volunteered as a tutor at Kingswood and Brooker elementary schools for 18 years. He touched lives of many children, was appreciated and loved by all, awarded the SERVE Senior Tutor Award in 1996 and the Outstanding Senior in 2011. Jack was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Valrico. Jack had an insatiable appetite to learn, and was the consummate history buff. He was an avid reader and enjoyed classical music. To his family he left behind a legacy built on love, integrity, loyalty, and a deep-rooted love for his country. Jack is survived by the love of his life of 40 years, Schirey , sons: Troy (Terri), Todd (Astrid), Ty, Erik (Melissa), daughtrer; Sara, sister; Jeannette Keesling, 13 grand children, 3 great-grand children.. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with military honors.
