Obituary

Joan Liebner Jansen, 96, of Valrico, Florida, passed away at home on March 9, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward J. Young and Alice K. Barry, her husband and father of her six children, Joseph J. Liebner, her brothers the Reverend John E. Young, and James A. "Chic" Young and his wife Marian, her sister Mary Rose Daniel and her husband Robert, and her eldest son, John J. Liebner.

She was born in St. Paul, MN, grew up in South Dakota during the Depression, before graduating from high school in Elmhurst, IL. She received her degree in Liberal Arts from the College of St. Francis in Joliet, IL and Master of Arts in Education from Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI.

After marrying Joe Liebner, their family settled in Jackson, MI before moving to Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1959, where the family resided for seven years. Upon the sudden death of her husband Joe, she returned to Jackson where she taught French, Spanish, and Civics at Lumen Christi High School and the Jackson Public Schools. Later in life, she married William R. Jansen and they had fourteen wonderful years together until his death in 2015.

She loved to travel across the globe visiting friends and family in Europe, Africa, South America, Asia, and the Middle East. She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, playing bridge, and knitting, right up to her final days.

She is survived by her sons Mark (Debbie) Liebner and Paul Liebner, daughters Mary Joan Liebner, Anne Liebner Watt, and Lisa (Scott) Huetteman, her daughter-in-law Ann Vainer Liebner, ten grandchildren (Sarah, Joseph, Elizabeth, Neal, Christian, Jessica, Erin, Sean, Kaitlyn, and Abigail) and their spouses (Michael, Joy, Isabel, Bodrie, and Lluliana), and eight great-grandchildren (Ava, Elise, Lillianne, Finn, Luna, Dylan, Liam, and James).

A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at 10:30 AM at St. Stephen Catholic Church, Riverview, FL. She will be interred with her first beloved husband at St. John Catholic Cemetery in Jackson, MI at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. Stephen Catholic Church Riverview, FL, Queen of the Miraculous Medal Church, Jackson MI , or Birthline Pregnancy & Parenting Center of Jackson , where she was a loyal volunteer for years.
