Born July 7. 1934 in Shreveport Louisiana to Charles Martin Bridges and Mattie Willie Brossette. Jewell was a graduate of Fair Park High School and earned her Bachelor's of Science Degree in Education from Centenary College as a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. She continually followed her love for learning and teaching throughout her career as a Caddo Parish educator at Atkins Elementary School until her retirement in 1977.
Mrs. Hobson received a heart transplant at Tampa General Hospital on November 28, 1991 - the 142nd such procedure done at the hospital. She passed away at the same hospital on November 10th, 2014 from natural causes.
Jewell is survived by her childhood sweetheart and loving husband, Richmond P. Hobson and was also blessed with three wonderful children, Richmond P. Hobson, Jr. (dec), Jim Hobson and Guy Hobson. As a Great-grandmother, Mrs. Hobson enjoyed the life enrichment that came from knowing her wonderful extended family that includes eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Jewell Hobson was predeceased by her two older siblings, Dr. Charles Martin Bridges, Jr. of Gainesville, FL and Martha Louise (Bridges) Allen of Houston, TX.
Visitation and viewing will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Shreveport, Louisiana, located at 1815 Marshall Street, (318) 222-0348. Hours for family visitation are 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. and visitation for friends is between 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Services for Mrs. Jewell Hobson will be held, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 21, 2014. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, 130 Stoner Avenue, Shreveport, Louisiana 71101. Flower arrangements and cards are welcome and appreciated at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in care of the Hobson Family.
