Jerry W. Skipper, Sr., native of Tampa, FL, born on October 25, 1945, sang his way into Glory on May 3, 2016. Preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Bernice Skipper; and siblings, Jimmy Skipper and Nita Graf. Jerry is survived by his wife and best friend of 43 years, Gerri Skipper; sons, Wayne Jr., Neal Thompson (Cyndi), grandchildren, Josh, Haylee, Hannah, Joylynn, Julieanne, and great-grandchild, Cole; Ryan (Karen), grandchildren, Brayden, Ashley, Layla, Noah, Olivia, Norah; daughter, Janine; nephew, Bradley; granddaughter, Saydie; uncle, Ronald Wells; siblings, Joyce Pollock and Jackie Skipper; sister-in-law Verna Skipper; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Jerry surrendered his life to Christ at a very young age and lived out his days as a faithful servant to Christ. Jerry attended Horace Mann Middle School, and graduated from Brandon High School in 1964, where, under the music tutelage of T. Edison James, Jerry further developed his love and talent for music. Jerry was a talented and gifted leader who dedicated his life to leading people into the presence of God through worship and song. He retired after 30 years from UPS. In his recent years he was employed by Auto Advisors & FCCU, and he will be greatly missed by many in the auto community. The church family at Bell Shoals Baptist Church Palm River Campus (formerly FBC Palm River), where Jerry led in various capacities for over 40 years, will deeply miss Jerry's influence and leadership. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 9, at 10:00 am at BSBC Palm River, 5415 Palm River Rd., Tampa, FL 33619. Service will follow at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VPK program at BSBC Palm River, or the Florida Baptist Children's Home at FBCHomes.org.
