Obituary

Janosik, Jan, 82, of Brandon, FL, passed away on July 30, 2014. Jan was born to Rudolph and Anna Janosik in Czechoslovakia. While in Czechoslovakia he worked as a Border Guard and eventually escaped to the United States, via the US Army under the Lodge Act. Jan proudly served in the US Army Special Forces. Throughout his time in the Army, he was a part of the 1st, 5th, 7th, 8th, 77th Special Forces Group and the 46th Special Forces Company; during his first tour in Vietnam he was on a Mike Force in III Corps. Jan also had tours in Laos, Thailand, Panama, and Vietnam again. Before retiring as a Master Sergeant, Jan earned several medals, including a Silver Star, Bronze Star, Air Medal and the Purple Heart, among others. After retiring from the US Army, Jan worked for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's office as a Jail Deputy. He then went on to the State of Florida, working in Job Employment Services until his retirement. He is preceded in death by his son, James Janosik. Jan is survived by his loving family; wife of 60 years, Josephine Janosik; son, Jan R. Janosik; daughter, Joyce Janosik; cousin, Emil; and grandchildren, Jan and Juliana. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 11:00 am at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home.
