James (Jimbo) E. Harris, 43, a proud veteran of the United States Army and a resident of Riverview, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 20, 2022. He was born on November 22, 1978 in Fort Benning, Georgia.
Jimbo is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Elden and Betty Harris; his maternal grandparents, Ralph and Ruth Doty; his first cousin, Adam Dubois. Jimbo is survived by his loving parents, James (Jim) and Penny Harris (Doty); his sister, Christy Harris; his son, Kamron Harris and his girlfriend, Kim. As well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. He is remembered by countless friends, whom he considered brothers in arms in the military community.
Jimbo enlisted in the United States Army on September 10, 1997. He retired honorably after 21 years of dedicated service on April 30, 2018 as a Master Sargeant (E-8). Jimbo deployed 13 times in support of numerous combat operations to Afghanistan and Iraq to include support in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Jimbo supported his fellow warriors and dedicated most of his career to supporting Special Forces and operation missions.
During Jimbo's military career, he received numerous medals. They include: Bronze Star Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with Three Oak Leaf Clusters, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal with Four Oak Leaf Clusters, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Valorous Unit Award, Army Superior Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal (6), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Three Bronze Service Stars, Iraq Campaign Medal with One Bronze Service Star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, Korea Defense Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, United States Army Recruiter Badge with Three Sapphires, Air Assault Badge and Parachutist Badge.
Jimbo loved his son, Kamron, with all his heart and soul. Jimbo always had a smile on his face, he never met a stranger. He enjoyed traveling, spending time with friends and family, motorcycles and working on hotrods. He loved the beach, spending time outdoors, music and making people laugh. He was always quick with a joke. Jimbo was brave, strong, courageous, loyal, generous, funny, protective, smart, handsome, athletic, man of faith and a patriotic man of valor. He attended The Crossing Church and was a volunteer for the Children's Ministry. Jimbo's warming smile and beautiful spirit will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Jimbo's memorial service will be Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home (6919 Providence Rd, Riverview, Florida 33578). Public viewing and visitation will be from 10-11 AM., followed by the service at 11 AM. The burial will follow the service by a procession and motorcade escort to Florida National Cemetery (6502 SW 102 nd Ave, Bushnell, Florida 33513). Arrival will be at approximately 1:30 PM with burial service beginning at approximately 2 PM to include full military honors. A Celebration of Life will be held at Starling Club at Fishhawk Ranch at 6 PM (15808 Starling Crossing Dr, Lithia, Florida 33547). A live stream will be available. Contact family for information.
