Obituary

James D. Evans, age 83, died on September 5, 2013. A resident of Brandon, Florida since 1967, Jim was born in Chicago, Illinois to James D. Evans Sr. and Margaret O'Brien Evans. He attended the University of Illinois and the Illinois Institute of Technology. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War; stationed in Washington DC. As a civil engineer, Jim specialized in water control projects from breakwaters in Port Huron, MI to flood control on the Tampa Bypass Canal. He worked (by choice) until age 78; the last several years for Florida Structural Steel, Tampa. Jim was very active in the developing Nativity Catholic Church. Not only was he an usher there, he served on the Parish Council, School Board, Building Committee and the Carnival Committee. He proudly was the basketball "Coich" for the Nativity Cougars from 1971-74. In 1959, Jim married Marilyn Maier Evans. Between them they raised six children: Katie Bivens (Bob), Margie Yglesias (Joe), Anne Hale (David), Jim Evans (Pamela), Joe Evans, David Evans (Jody). They have eight grandchildren: Joshua Lambert, Joseph, Megan and Jeffrey Yglesias, Marissa and Niki Hale, Gracie and Liam Evans. We will miss him dearly - His funny faces, his Sunday brunches (eggs any style as long as they were fried), his shushing us during Jeopardy and his enjoyment of a dry martini, cold beer, old westerns, Get Smart and the Lawrence Welk Show. A memorial service for Jim will be held Tuesday, September 10, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Seffner, FL. Visitation with the family at 10:00 a.m. followed by Mass at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation the Black Dagger Military Hunt Club, PO Box 6073, Tampa FL, 33608-0073 in their support of wounded veterans' therapy. BDMHC is a 501(c) 3 non-profit charity and 100% of proceeds support the veterans. www.blackdaggermhc.org
