Obituary

James Egan, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on the morning of March 7, 2020, at family's home and in the presence of loved ones.  Mr. Egan, 'Jim,' was born September 9, 1931, in Jersey City, New Jersey, where he was raised and went to school.  Soon after graduating high school, Jim enlisted in the United States Navy in 1950 and was discharged in 1954.  Jim was a proud Korean War Veteran and served on U.S.S. Purdy, which circumnavigated the globe twice.  After discharge from the Navy, Jim worked various jobs in Jersey City until he found his calling with the Hudson County Sheriffs Department in 1962.  There, Mr. Egan started as a police officer and retired 30 years later as a lieutenant in 1992.
In 1959, Jim married Dolores Larsen, and they had two daughters, Marybeth and Karen. Jim and Dolores, 'Dee," retired and moved to Florida Gulf Coast in 1994.  Jim was a proud Navy Veteran, distinguished law enforcement officer, and a diehard New York Yankees and Giants fan.  He was also proud of his Irish heritage and loved his dogs.  When they retired, Jim and Dee loved planning and taking their cruises throughout the Caribbean.
Jim will be missed and is survived by his wife, Dolores; his two daughters, Marybeth Besett and Karen Egan-Blackwood; his two son-in-laws, Richard Besett and Bob Blackwood; his five grandchildren, Justin Besett, Jennifer Egan, Nicole Besett, Leah Blackwood, and Samantha Blackwood.
