JACK G BROWN OBITUARY
Jack G Brown, passed away on March 8, 2024, in Lutz, Florida. Born on April 5, 1946, to Bettie Owen. Jack was a native of Florida, and known by many in the Tampa area for his musical talents and skills.
Jack's early years were spent being raised by his mom as an only child with no siblings. Jack attended Mary Help Christian School in Tampa, Florida in his younger years where he first developed a love for music and started playing the clarinet. Jack later graduated from King High School where he enjoyed competing in Track & Field. It was in high school where
Jack started his first band. At the age of 20 years old, Jack joined the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Ft Stewart, Georgia, it was here Jack continued to play in the 80th Army Band and later studied at the Naval School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia while also serving his country.
Professionally, Jack was respected as an accomplished Tampa musician playing keyboards and saxophone for over fifty years.
His band, Skylight Music has played for some of Tampa's most prestigious weddings and events, fundraisers and respective organizations such as Hospice, Queen of Hearts Ball, American Heart Association, The American Cancer Society, Museum of Fine Arts and more. Jack was also a talented studio musician and engineer with a trained musical ear, producing several projects. Some of Jack's most rewarding years were spent teaching student's music lessons, he truly loved imparting his musical knowledge into others.
Jack also volunteered at his local church in Brandon, Florida where he played organ and keyboards for over forty years. His musical talents have
entertained and shaped the sounds of Tampa and the lives of those he mentored.
In 1981 Jack married his sweetheart, Cheryl Newberry and together they nurtured a family that would include their children, Michelle, Garrett &
Justin and two adored grandchildren, Austin & Brianna. Jack's legacy is carried on through his family, whom he loved with every fiber of his being.
Jack's hobbies reflected his love for excellence and the simple pleasures of life. Playing chess, doing DIY home and yard projects, weekend grilling, road trips with his wife or just spending time with his family at home or on the beach were some of his favorite pastimes with those he loved.
Predeceased by his mother Bettie, Jack's memory is honored and kept alive by his loving wife, Cheryl, his children, Michelle (Robin) Garrett and Justin, his grandchildren, his father in law and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, family and colleagues.
A service to celebrate Jack's life will be held on March 22, at 7:00 p.m. with a viewing at 6:00 p.m. at Serenity Gardens, located in Riverview Florida, United States. The Reverend Lee Carson McSherdon, Sr will be officiating.
The family invites you to attend and to celebrate Jack's life with them. As a Veteran, Jack's ashes will be placed at the Sarasota National Cemetery at a later date with his family present. Jack's warmth, humor, talents, wisdom, and the joy he brought to life will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His was a life well-lived and a legacy that will continue to inspire.
