Ivan Roscoe Arnold, 84 owner of Michigan-based Arnold Amusements passed away Thursday, February 4, 2021 in Riverview Florida. Ivan was born October 27, 1936 in Traverse City, MI the son of Lester and Mabel (Olman)Arnold. He married the love of his life Agnes Garvin on November 8, 1958 at Immaculate Conception Church in Traverse City. Ivan got his start in the amusement business when he was just 8 years old as a stake boy for John Reid and gradually advanced to become an independent ride owner on the Reid brothers Happyland Shows. He later became a unit manager for W.G.Wade Shows. Upon the sale of the Wade Shows, with Agnes and their three children, Tom, Sandy and Jon by his side, he founded the now renowned Arnold Amusements. Ivan's lifetime of hard work and his hands on approach has built an unrivaled reputation in the Outdoor Amusement Business, traveling throughout the states between Michigan and Florida. Arnold Amusements is a premier mobile theme park like carnival greatly revered in the amusement industry. Arnold Amusements has been the longtime midway provider for his hometown National Cherry Festival and Northwestern Michigan Fair both in Traverse City. Ivan proudly served as a National Cherry Festival Ambassador. He and Agnes were honored to represent the festival by being named Grand Marshals in the Cherry Festival Heritage parade where Ivan was also recognized by being awarded for over 60 years of dedication to the festival. Ivan's accolades include being a Past President of the International Independent Showmens Association, a Past President of the Greater Tampa Showmens Club and was the current President of the International Showmens Museum Corporation. He is a lifetime member of the Northwestern Michigan Fair, a member of the Outdoor Amusement Business Association, the Michigan Festival and Events Association and of the Showmens Shriners Organization. Ivan's lifetime of achievement to the amusement industry was rewarded by the prestigious honor of being inducted into both the International Independent Showmens Hall of Fame as well as the Michigan Association of Fairs Hall of Fame. Ivan was a very unassuming man who loved nothing more than sharing the joy of his beautiful midway. His most cherished tradition was the incorporation of special needs day which consisted of him opening his midway to exclusively host local special needs children and their families. This most generous man has inspired and mentored not only his family but so many friends and colleagues that he has met along the way. The loss of Ivan, as an industry icon will be felt throughout the entire amusement industry. Ivan is survived by his wife Agnes; his three children; Tom Arnold, Sandy Arnold Schmidt; Jon (Karen) Arnold; five grandchildren, Alex, Lauren and Jillian Arnold, Josh (Hannah) and Kyle (Courtney) Schmidt; Three Great Granddaughters; Marley & Harper Schmidt and Chloe Schmidt; sister-in-law Susan (Don) Fritz; sister-in-law Claudia Arnold and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; Lester & Mabel Arnold; his father and mother-in-law; Roman & Anna Garvin; lifetime mentors; Buster & Pat Anderson his brothers Junior, George and James Arnold; sister Edith (Willie) Compton; Son-in-law Terry Jay Schmidt.
