IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ignacio
Bello
August 4, 1940 – August 29, 2022
Ignacio Bello, 82, of Apollo Beach, FL passed away peacefully in his home on August 29, 2022. Bello was born in Havana, Cuba on August 4, 1940. He is survived by his wife Mermaida, his two daughters Desiree and Natasha, and four grandchildren.
Bello received his bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of South Florida in 1965 and his master's degree in 1967. Shortly after graduation he was hired as a full-time math instructor at USF. In 1971, he became a member of the faculty and Coordinator of the Math and Sciences Department at Hillsborough Community College. Bello began writing in 1975 and co-wrote over 50 math textbooks including Topics in Contemporary Mathematics (spanning 10 editions), College Algebra, Algebra and Trigonometry, and Business Mathematics. Many of these textbooks have been translated into Spanish. Bello started the Algebra Hotline, the only live, college-level television help program in Florida at the time. He gave many presentations over the years regarding the teaching of mathematics at the local, state, and national levels. His love of mathematics resonated in everything he did during his time teaching. He retired in 2002 from teaching and continued to write until 2010.
He will be missed greatly by everyone who loved him. Memorial services will be held Friday, September 9th , 2022 at 10am at Serenity Meadows. Burial services will follow at 2pm at Gardens of Memories in Tampa.
