Obituary

Howard "Bo" Russell Hurley passed away Thursday, May 11, 2017. His family will receive guests on Monday, May 15th from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home in Riverview. Final internment will be at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. Bo was born on October 1, 1936, in Fort Clark, Texas. Shortly after Bo's birth, his father was stationed at MacDill Air Force Base when the Base opened and his family moved back to Brandon. Bo was surrounded by his wife and daughters, when he left to be with our heavenly father Thursday morning. Bo was predeceased in death by his son, David Hurley (Terry) and leaves behind his wife, Carol of 32 years, his daughters, Tina Gomez (Gerardo), Verna Kay Hurley-Long (David), Katie Dannehold (Jack), and his stepchildren Michelle Rees Richie and Kevin Rees, 11 grandchildren, Rachel Hurley (Jennifer), Adam Buzbee (Jennifer), Amanda Buzbee, Joseph Gomez (Deanna), Trisha Perry (Hendrick), Michael Gomez (Ashley), Dustin Dannehold (Diana), Allison Dannehold (Sam), Jacob Richie, Corynn Richie, Gracie Mae Rees, Travis West, and Dylan West, and 10 great-grandchildren Emma, Elijah, Grayson, Bryce, Aiden, Sparrow, Phoenix, Rashaun, Joseph, and Marcus. Bo grew up on Gornto Lake in Brandon, Florida, where he raised his children. He graduated from Brandon High School and promptly joined the Air Force. Bo retired from the Naval Reserves and from Hillsborough County Public Schools as a System Analysis. Bo had many, many friends. He was actively involved in the Brandon Lions Club where he received national recognition for his philanthropic work, receiving the Melvin Jones Award. Bo loved the Florida Lions Camp for the Visually Impaired and tirelessly supported the camp for many years. He has been an active member of the Brandon Community and Masons. If you needed help, Bo was always there. Bo enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, Saturday night dinner with his friends, the Sunday morning breakfast group, his monthly school board retiree breakfast club, Ruth's every morning for breakfast, reading the paper, and being with his beloved family. His family would like to thank all of his friends, whom Bo loved and considered family, for their outpouring of support during Bo's final days with us. He will be missed.
