Haskell "Sam" Eugene Chapman, of Tampa, passed away after a long battle with heart disease on Tuesday, January 12, 2016. Born in Greenville, SC in 1936 to Walter and Callie Hall, Sam was 79 years old. Sam was a devoted father and very proud of his children, Wayne Larry Chapman, Haskell Eugene Chapman, Jr; Gregory Scott Chapman, Roxanne Chapman Hryc (David), Heather Chapman Rosas (Jose). Sam was also a proud grandfather of his six grandchildren as well as two great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Janice Ann Chapman. Sam was enjoying retirement after more than 30 years as a propane truck driver, and was also a member of the U.S. Armed Services. He led an active life and enjoyed taking long drives and exploring, tinkering with cars, and loved animals. Most that met him quickly became good friends and all loved to hear his rich southern accent. He loved meeting new people and always found joy in helping others. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 23, 2016 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, with the funeral service beginning at 3:00 PM at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home, 6919 Providence Rd., Riverview, FL. Sam will be missed dearly by those that knew him.
