Obituary

CUTCHEON, Harriet E. (Berry), 87, of Brandon after a ceaseless struggle with Alzheimer's, Harriet slipped from our arms into the arms of God on the night of June 8, 2017. Harriet was born December 1, 1929, in Abbeville, Alabama. She was the youngest of five children born to Carl and Leacy Berry. At 19 years old, Harriet met Edward Cutcheon, the love of her life, and they eloped six weeks after that first meeting. They were blessed with two daughters. They lived, loved and laughed for 53 years. They shared a deep love for their family and a passion for the Florida Gators and fishing on the lakes of Kissimmee. Harriet was a remarkable homemaker. She had a talent for cooking, decorating and sewing. She prepared delicious meals, kept a beautiful home and was an award winning seamstress. After losing Edward in 2002, Harriet went back to Abbeville to find her bearings and learn how to live a life without him. It took a few years, but she returned to Brandon and went out on her own for the first time in her life. She moved into her own home, was a devoted grandmother and even joined a singing group. She also found love again with her companion, David Weir. They shared many years together until his passing. Then Alzheimer's stepped in and began taking the words to the songs. That is when her 4 year, and our heart breaking, struggle began. She is whole now, singing in Heaven, and the words are right. She is survived by her loving family, Lisa Ann Cutcheon of Boulder, CO, Lori Laine and husband Andy Nikolajski, and granddaughter Audra Laine Nikolajski, of Brandon, FL. Visitation will take place Saturday, June 17, 10 am-12 pm, at Serenity Meadows. There will be a private burial at Florida National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with Edward. The family would like to thank Harriet's best friend Susan Ambrose and Danielle Gibbs for their genuine love and care. They would also like to thank the staff at The Crossings at Riverview and Lifepath Hospice. There is one thing Alzheimer's cannot take away, and that is love.
