On Saturday, December 7, 2019, Harley Cooper Gilmore, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and longtime licensed Land Surveyor, passed away at the age of 85 of natural causes.
Harley was born on August 20, 1934 in Rutland, Vermont to Cora Belle (Cooper) and Carlton A. Gilmore. The young family moved to Elfers, Florida when Harley was a child. Carlton passed away when Harley was just 11 years old and Cora went back to school to become a teacher. After high school, Harley joined the Air Force and served from 1954-1956 and trained to be a navigator. Harley returned to Florida and enrolled in the University of Florida where he graduated with his Bachelor of Civil Engineering Degree in 1962. In August 1964, Harley married Ada Louise Smith. They raised two children Kim and Doug.
Harley was a proud land surveyor and Director of Education at PDHPro.com and was a state licensed land surveyor until his passing. He also loved to cook, study history, write books, be involved in local charities such as the Boy Scouts and the Hillsborough River State Park Historical Society. He was a businessman, columnist, teacher, theologian, expert witness and all around friend to all.
Harley loved his children, his six grandchildren his two great-grandsons and enjoyed attending their activities and attending family gatherings. He was known as the 'pie-man' and would bring his signature Apple Pie with Bacon, Pumpkin and Pecan pies to events.
Harley is survived by his children Kim (Jeffrey) Miller, Doug (Marie) Gilmore, his grandchildren Cross, Troy & Rhett Gilmore, Josh (Megan) & Rachel Lacy & Faith Miller and great-grandsons Colby & Carson Lacy.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on Monday December 16, 2019 at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home, Riverview, FL with the family gathering with friends one hour prior from 1:00-2:00pm.
