Dowdell, Gladys Barnett, 92 Passed away peacefully July 2, 2017, in Hillsborough County, FL. She was born in Albany, GA, the daughter of James Miller Barnett, MD and Gladys Smith Barnett. She was married to Clark H. Dowdell, originally from Tampa, FL, for 65 years who preceded her in death in 2013. Also preceding her in death include her son William Clark Dowdell and her brothers James M. Barnett, Robert P. Barnett, and Ewing S. Barnett. She is survived by her son, James A. Dowdell and her daughter Susan Dowdell Smith, her granddaughters Taylor D. Murray and Lane A. Dowdell, her grandson William P. Smith and her great grandson William Brooks Murray. She was a 1941 graduate of Albany High School and attended Traphagen School of Interior Design in NYC, and graduated from Mount Vernon College in Washington, DC. She later earned her degree in Library Science. She was very proud that she was retired from the City of Albany as the Branch Manager of the Carnegie Library. She was a charter member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Albany, GA, a Sustainer Emeritus in the Junior League of Albany, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of American Colonists and lifelong volunteer in the Albany community. Gladys leaves behind many loving relatives, friends in Albany and her home in Florida, including caregiver Sylvia Adama. Services will be held graveside at Oakview Cemetery in Albany, GA on Saturday, July 8 at 11 AM, Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Directors.
