Girlie V. Morehouse, 92 of Riverview, passed away on Monday , June 13, 2011. She was born in Goochland, Virginia on July 26, 1918 and moved to the Gibsonton area in 1949. She was of the Baptist faith and was a loyal and faithful member. Girlie also was a longtime member of the VFW Women's Auxillary giving dedicated service to that organization for over 65 years. One of her passions was crocheting and quilting. She spend many hours providing hand-made "lap quilts" to the VFW disabled veterans and to the many others who requested and enjoyed her hand-made quilts.

Girlie was preceded in death by her husband Hawley Morehouse, a son George Morehouse Sr., three brothers and four sisters.

She is survived by a daughter, Ona Morehouse (John Pope); a sister, Myrtle Murie; daughter-in-law Helen Ann Morehouse; three grandchildren, Bernard Morehouse (Melissa), George Morehouse Jr. (Janet) and Diana Miller; along with 7 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. A special thank you also goes to Sharon Lopez who provided wonderful love and special attention and care as Girlie's personal caregiver.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 between 1:00-2:00PM at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home, 6919 Providence Rd. in Riverview, FL where chapel services will follow at 2:00 PM. Burial to occur at Hackney Cemetery in Riverview at the conclusion of services.
