Gilbert George
Williams
November 21, 1968 — August 3, 2018
It is with great sadness that the family of Gilbert George Williams announces his passing on Friday August 3, 2018 at the age of 49; after a valiant fight with kidney disease since 2015.
Gilbert (affectionately known as Gilly) was born on November 21, 1968 in Kingston, Jamaica to his beloved mother Linda Mae Grant and father George Williams.
Anyone who knew Gilbert can attest to his deep and unconditional love for his mother Linda Mae Grant and his grandmother, Vera Powell.
Gilbert passed the well-known Caribbean "Common Entrance" exam with flying colors and was awarded the prestigious Marcus Garvey Scholarship to St. Jago High School. He was a proud and active alumnus of St. Jago High School where he graduated in 1988.
Gilbert held a degree in telecommunications and received several certificates in this field. He had a successful career in Airline management at Us Airways prior to their merger with American Airlines.
Gilbert Williams met Sandra Henry in 2008; they were married on February 15, 2011 and made Tampa Florida their home.
Gil was passionate about politics and well versed on several topics. He often engaged in many spirited discussions about politics with very strong opinions. He had a smooth and confident tone of voice suitable for a radio personality which he was considering pursuing as a second career.
Gil was a culinary master of sorts with his specialty being Jamaican black cake. One was privileged to get a taste during the holiday season.
Airplanes were his passion. As a child he would be very excited about going to the airport to watch the planes take off and land. He was so fascinated he could identify the make and model from a glance. He was also fond of horses; many times you could probably find him at the track with his friends enjoying the sport. He was a proud owner of a well preserved 25-year-old Acura Legend.
Gilbert is predeceased by his mother Linda Mae Grant, father George Williams and his grandmother, Vera Powell.
Gilbert will be lovingly remembered by his wife Sandra; his children Andre, Shawn, Neroy, and Kamilah; his brothers Loris George "Duke" Barnes and Hugh Williams. He will also be remembered by step-children, many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends from childhood.
Funeral Services will be held Monday on August 13, 2018 at 6:30pm with visitation prior to the service beginning at 5:00pm at Serenity Meadows Memorial Park Funeral Home at 6919 Providence Road, Riverview, FL 33569 813-677-9494
As Gilbert's family pays tribute to his life they acknowledge that Gilly was a loving and faithful Husband, a Father of integrity to all his children and a strong and true loyal friend. He will be deeply missed by all.
