Obituary

Gerald (Gerry) Cary Randolph,  67 of Brandon, Florida departed this life after a brief illness on April 24, 2025, in Riverview, Florida. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 11:00 am at Rivers of Life Church Ministries - 301 Lakewood Drive, Brandon, FL 33510

Gerry was the second son born to George Curtis Randolph and Alyce Scott Randolph at Fort Monmouth, US Army Hospital on May 14, 1957. His mother said that he was the most beautiful baby. Big and strong and his mom said that he was sucking his thumb and ready to eat right after he was born.

After a short time in California, a young Gerry, his parents and big brother returned home to Red Bank New Jersey, where he attended elementary, middle and high school. Gerry was active in school as a Cub and Boy Scout, in athletics, playing Pop Warner Baseball where he was known as the "Hammer" for his ability to hit home runs. In High School Gerry played Basketball and Tennis (where he was an assistant coach) and was a part of the Red Bank High School Band where he played the trumpet. Gerry also took part in the Drama Club where he had parts in his school productions of Oklahoma and Room 222. Gerry graduated from Red Bank High School. After graduating high school Gerry went to Lincoln University in Pennsylvania where he played tennis all 4 years of college and pledged and was initiated into the NU Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated where he served as "Dean" for several pledge classes. Gerry graduated from Lincoln University in 1980 with a degree in Therapeutic Recreation.

Gerry worked as a Recreation Therapist in a variety of locations, with his first job after graduation at Ridgeview Institute in Marian Ga: Agency for Community Treatment Services (ACTS), The State of Florida Department of Corrections and finally Hillsborough County Department of Aging Services, where he remained until he retired on April 30, 2024.

Gerry is remembered as never meeting a stranger. He was known for his kindness, integrity and his big, beautiful smile. He was a man large in stature but just as large for his gentleness. He loved most sports, but his favorite was playing Golf (he described himself as a student of the game). Gerry was most importantly a husband and father. He shared his pride and love for his family to all he met. He will always be remembered as a dedicated brother, uncle and friend to all who knew him.

Gerry was preceded in death by his parents George Curtis and Alyce Scott Randolph. He leaves to eternally miss and cherish wonderful memories: his beloved wife of 33 years Gwendolyn, sons Jarryd Randolph of Brandon, Florida and Jacob Randolph stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina; his beloved brother, George Curtis Randolph of Toronto Canada; niece Thalia Ayers Randolph of Los Angeles, California; nephew Curtiss Randolph of Toronto, Canada; his family by marriage; numerous cousins; and a multitude of fraternity brothers and friends who loved and will miss him dearly.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 1 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Serenity Meadows Memorial Park/Funeral Home, 6919 Providence Road, Riverview, FL 33569.
