Plate
January 16, 1938 – March 15, 2024
Lieutenant Colonel Gary Kent Plate born in Lafayette, Ohio and a longtime resident of Valrico, Florida peacefully passed away March 15 at the age of 86.
Gary served his patriotic duty for 23 years in the Air Force, serving tours stateside and abroad, including in Vietnam. His loyalty and excellent performance earned him many commendations, including the Meritorious Service medal, Defense Meritorious Service medal, and the Bronze Star Medal. His quick wit, loyalty to family and friends, and always being there when needed will be missed by grieving family and friends. His heartbroken family members include his wife, Nancy Makin Plate, who has known and loved him since they were 14 years old, son Kyle (Sherri), and daughter Jenifer. Grandchildren Casey Plate (Lisa), Erin Steele (Andrew), Kathleen Plate (Michael Trice). Great-grandchildren Amelia, Madeline, Olivia, and Landon. His parents Myron and Lillian Plate, and sister Linny Fleming predeceased Gary. Gary is survived by his brother Errol Plate (Bonnie) and sister Lisa Roney (Dennis).
A military funeral with full honors will be held at Sarasota National Cemetery on April 10th at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, a donation to St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Brandon, Florida or Lifepath Hospice in Sun City Center, Florida would be appreciated.
