Obituary

Dowell, Frank Laird, Jr., 91, of Freedom Plaza, Sun City Center, FL, died November 9, 2011. Born in Savannah, GA, he entered military service in 1941. He was a pilot in the European theater in WW II and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with eleven Oak Leaf Clusters. He was in the first Jet Aircraft Class at Williams AFB, Ariz. and remained there as an instructor. He later served two overseas tours of duty, in Germany and England. He moved to St. Petersburg in 1964, and retired from the Air Force at MacDill AFB in 1965, as a Command Pilot after 24 years of service. He was a Realtor in St. Petersburg for 14 years. He was a member of Westminster United Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder and Trustee. He is currently a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Sun City Center. Survivors include his son, William L. Dowell and wife, Kathy of Eden, Utah; a daughter, Frances D. Beeson and husband, Bruce of Wimauma, FL and two grandchildren, Scott and Elizabeth Dowell of Eden, Utah. There will be a memorial service on Friday, November 18, 2011 at 10:00 am at Freedom Plaza in Sun City Center, FL.
