Obituary

van Hoek, Florence Carlson died at her home in Valrico, Florida after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Rockland, Maine on July 1, 1949. She was the daughter of Gustav H. and Ethel L. Carlson Sr. Educated in Rockland schools, she graduated from RocklandDistrictHigh School with the class of 1967.

Florence enjoyed having family and friends around her and entertaining them while at her home. She loved to bake and was a very good cook. A visit to her home meant you always looked forward to enjoying her well known chocolate chip cookies and brownies. On her visits back to Maine she always had family and friends around and is something she enjoyed very much.

Family pictures and memorial items on display at her home showed how much she prized family wife. Florence also enjoyed camping with her husband Hans and her close friends in Florida.

Florence was an active member of the Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall all adult life, both here and in Florida. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, a sister Arlene Jenkins and a brother Richard Carlson.

She is survived by her husband of 33 years Hans van Hoek. Her children from a previous marriage to Charles Sawyer; Troy Sawyer and his wife Wendy, Brenton Sawyer, and Ashley Sawyer all of Rhode Island and Marisa Sawyer of Connecticut. Hans's children from a previous marriage to Joanne Roberts, Leslie Mehrer of Brunswick and Mandy Moreno of Massachusetts.

Her brothers, Robert Carlson, Roger Carlson and his wife Sheila, Donald Carlson and wife Catherine, and Alfred Carlson all of Rockland and Gustav H. Carlson Jr. of Warren. Sisters Sonja Staples of Lincolnville, Hilma Meklin and Karen Oliver of Rockland, Norma Davee and her husband Robert of Camden and Judith Carlson of Thomaston. Grandchildren, Brittany Sawyer and Tyler Sawyer of Rhode Island, Alana and CarolinaMoreno of MA, and Olivia and Natilie Mehrer of Brunswick.



A memorial service will be held at the Johovah's Witmess Kingom Hall on Route 17 in Rockville on Saturday, September 4th and 2:00 P.M. Michael Gay will be officiating.
