Fernande was born on December 24 th , 1929, in Chambellan, Jeremie. She was the first-born child of Nelia Mortume Bien-Aime and Octama Bien-Aime. After completing her "academic certificate" (which is the equivalent to completing middle school in the United States) she was sent to a trade school to learn how to sew. Fernande spent her adult years as one of the finest seamstresses in the country. Fernande was the oldest of 7 siblings - Bernadette, Clautaire, Numa, Joseph, Nativita and Emilio. She was married to Luckmann Morencie and survived by her 5 children – John, Sandry, Nadia, Nickson and Foufoune. Fernande has 9 grandchildren – Darline, Nicholson, David, Jeffrey, Nackyana, Cassidy, Mcyvens, Diana and Christina. She was also blessed with 9 great-grandchildren – Nicholas, Nailah, Mason, Kayden, Zane, Nathaniel, Naliana, Neveah, and Noah.
Fernande was a respectful, Godfearing, and influential woman. She was a mother, grandmother, sibling, and friend. She was notorious for her long prayers that included everyone that could be thought of to ensure that they are covered in God's blessings. She was known for her love to her family, her children, the generations she produced, her community, and her dedication to the church that she attended. Fernande was the epitome of "poto mitan" or the "center pillar" of the family. She was the foundation that ensured the family survived, succeeded, and prospered. As an older Haitian woman with Creole being her main language, she was able to learn a new language, pursue a life in a new country and ensured a sustainable life for her family and their future generations. Fernande is the personification of a powerful, self-less and respected woman who has lived a life full of blessings and will forever be missed in the hearts of anyone who's had the honor of meeting her.
