Obituary

Lanier, Evelyn Hudson, 80, of Tampa, died peacefully on September 23, 2012, after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, Stanley, and son, Vernon Chewning. She is survived by her children, Wayne Chewning, Cheryl Chewning Swords, Deryl Chewning and his wife Alison, Charlotte Lanier, Frances Lanier Williams and her husband Kenny, and daughter-in-law Ruth Chewning. In her lifetime Evelyn also had many aunts, uncles and cousins along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom gave her great joy. Evelyn was born in Calhoun County in the panhandle of Florida and moved to the Tampa area as a child. She worked many of her years as a cigar maker while raising her family. She was very active in the bowling community, especially as a leader in the junior bowling scene at Regal Lanes. She also traveled the US going to national bowling tournaments. She loved to play poker with her friends, go to bingo and was an avid crossword puzzle enthusiast. In lieu of flowers a donation in her honor to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated. A Celebration of Life gathering for "The Big E" will be held on Saturday, October 6th, from 2:00-6:00 at Lowry Park, shelter #120. Finger food and soft drinks will be provided.
