Edna Violet
Deans
September 5, 1931 — December 30, 2019
Edna Violet Deans, 88, of Tampa, passed away on December 30, 2019.
Edna was born to the late Ellen Francella Elliott and Cornelius Bryan Elliott in Bull Savannah, Jamaica on September 5, 1931. Through adolescence, her parents encouraged education for Edna and her siblings. This undoubtedly brought about Edna's thirst for knowledge and love of reading.
After attending Business School in 1947, she became a hardworking accounting clerk for a small business in Kingston, Jamaica. She married in 1952 and had three children: Stephen, Michele and Geoffrey. After the passing of her husband, Edna was dedicated to providing her children with as many opportunities as possible. In 1977, she bravely relocated her family to Philadelphia, PA, USA.
As the branches of her children spread, Edna put down roots with her daughter Michele — ultimately settling in Tampa, FL. She spent the remainder of her life devoted to helping raise three of her grandchildren and selflessly assisted others in need. She also nurtured and cared for the children of other friends and family members.
Having left a legacy that her loved ones are deeply proud of; Edna's impact remains far-reaching. Her generosity, compassion and the love people had for her in return, made her a very wealthy woman. Edna's incredible ability to love and forgive added value to the lives of every person who knew her.
Edna Violet Deans, affectionately known as Mom, Mommy, Grandma, Nan, GG, Nanny Edna, Nana, Grandma Deans and Miss Edna will be remembered and missed by many.
Edna is survived by her three children: Stephen Deans, Michele Shah and Geoffrey Deans; eight grandchildren: Lliane Cannon, Stephanie Deans, Candice Henry, Sabrina Hobiera, Andrew Deans, Gabrielle Deans, Loren Deans and Laila Deans; three great-grandchildren: Jahmari Ikpe, Xiolise Cannon, Christopher Cannon; and an unofficial adopted son, James Henry; as well as a host of other friends and family members who loved her.
In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the Salvation Army on Edna's behalf. She regularly collected donations for this organization and would greatly appreciate if you did the same.
