Obituary

Edgar J. (Snooks) Estes, 94, of Seffner, FL, died Friday, 29 June, 2012.

Snooks was born in Scottsville, KY on the 27th of November, 1917, to the late Dick and Velma Estes. He attended Scottsville High School through the 8th grade and went on to pursue the occupation of auto mechanic.

Snooks served in the Army 1935-1938 as a truck mechanic stationed at Ft. Knox, KY. He married his school sweetheart Delsie (Eurene) Marsh 1/14/1939. When WWII broke out, he enlisted in the Army Air Force and was sent to Europe, where he served as an airplane mechanic for 3 years until the war ended. He returned from the war and moved his family to Armada, MI, where he owned and operated the Estes Garage. He resided in Armada for over 30 years, helping establish the Armada AMVETS Hall. Later he closed the garage and went to work for the Pontiac division of GM, from where he retired and was awarded one of the highest suggestion awards. After he retired, he and his wife Eurene moved to Seffner, FL in 1975.

Snooks enjoyed his cabin in West Branch, MI, hunting, snow mobiling, and motorcycle riding. Snooks especially loved it when his grandchildren, Lisa (Tim) & grandson Craig (Dawn) and great grandchildren, Ryan, Evan, Jordan and Tara, joined him at his Michigan cabin or sharing their vacations with him. His biggest enjoyment of all was traveling.

Snooks was preceded in death by his wife, of 54 years, Delsie Eurene Estes, by his second wife, of 11 years, Wanda Dunn Estes, by his brother Roy Estes, his parents Dick and Velma, and by his sister Elizabeth Melton.

Snooks is survived by one brother, George (Bea) Estes of SC, by his daughter Mary (Roger) Popp of WY, by his daughter Laura (Jim) Flannigan of FL, by five grandchildren, Lisa (Tim) Angona of Waterford MI, Craig (Dawn) Chapman of Macomb, MI, Roger (Nancy) Townsend of Armada, MI, John (Tracy) Townsend of Armada, MI, David (Julie) Townsend of Armada, MI, and by 10 Great Grandchildren.

A viewing will be held at the Serenity Meadows Funeral Home, 6919 Providence Rd, Riverside, FL 33578, (813/677-9494) Friday, 6 July, at 10 a.m., with burial service following at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. at 1:30 pm.
