Obituary

Steinwand, Dylan Joshua, age 24, passed peacefully on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, in Brandon, Florida.

Dylan was born in Tampa on October 10, 2001, to his loving parents, Kurt and Yvonne Steinwand. At the age of three, Dylan was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and Autism. From that moment on, he faced life with extraordinary grace, courage, and an innocence that never faded. He lived with the purest heart—loving everyone he encountered without judgment, condition, or hesitation.

Dylan had a rare gift: he noticed people. If he sensed that a stranger was sad, he instinctively knew how to lift their spirits, often with a perfectly timed joke or a warm smile. Without ever intending to, Dylan profoundly changed everyone who crossed his path. Through his life, he taught patience, selflessness, compassion, and kindness—qualities that came naturally to him and left a lasting imprint on all who knew him. The lessons Dylan shared, simply by being himself, will remain with us forever.

Throughout his life, Dylan achieved many meaningful accomplishments that reflected both his talents and his joyful spirit. He earned his high school diploma from Lopez Exceptional Center in 2023, where he was recognized with the Maestoso Award for Music and honored for his spectacular attendance. Dylan proudly served as Prom Prince in 2022 and participated in Tim Tebow's Night to Shine in 2019. A gifted musician, he was proficient at playing the drums and performed piano selections in the Music Showcase Christmas and Easter shows.

Dylan was an active participant in the Special Olympics, earning first place in the Power Chair Division in 2023, and he also achieved first place for his Halloween costume at the Trident Day Program in 2025. His earlier achievements included first place in the Poultry Division at the Florida State Fair in 2016, third place in the March Madness Essay Contest in 2015, and participation in Young Chef's Academy in Brandon, Florida. He was also a proud member of the Future Farmers of America through Simmons Exceptional Center.

From a young age, Dylan contributed to medical progress through his participation in a Phase 3 clinical trial for PTC-124 at Cincinnati Children's Hospital in 2006, a testament to his lifelong courage and the lasting impact he made on others.

Dylan was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Marilyn Steinwand, Jacob Sr. and Sophia Caflisch.

He is survived by his devoted parents, Kurt and Yvonne; his uncle Jacob Jr.; his aunt Kim; his cousins Zofia Christman ("Aunt Sophie"), Andrzej, Kazimierz, and Andrew ("Drew"); his great-uncle William Caflisch Sr.; his great-aunt Sheila; and cousins Frances, Chelly, Sheila, and William Jr. He is also lovingly remembered by extended cousins in Poland, as well as by his many friends, caregivers, and all whose lives were forever changed by knowing him.
