Obituary

Alvarnaz, Duane P, 65, of Valrico, passed away on June 21, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. Duane was born on December 8, 1954, in Taunton, MA, to the late Gordon and Shirley Alvarnaz. He was a graduate of Taunton High School's class of 1973. In 1989, Duane and his family moved to the Tampa Bay Area. He loved the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and all New England sports teams. He enjoyed listening to classic rock, attending concerts, talking sports, watching TV comedies, traveling with his wife, spending time at the beach on Anna Maria Island, attending Red Sox Spring Training games, and spending time with his family. He worked as an Electrical Controls Engineer for Florida Handling Systems. He is preceded in death by his brother, Gordon Alvarnaz, Jr. Duane is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Sharon Alvarnaz; daughter, Carissa Alvarnaz; daughter Julie (Alvarnaz) Gajewski & son-in-law Scottie Gajewski; his Uncle Paul Alvarnaz; nieces and nephews, Jennifer Weatherford-DeAndrade & Kevin DeAndrade; Jessica (Weatherford) Hackett & Chris Hackett, Jaime Weatherford & Natalie Walsh, Tony & Elizabeth DaCosta, Amanda Alvarnaz & David Meyer, Zachary Weatherford, William Thompson; and great-nieces and nephews, Gordon Anthony Alvarnaz Meyer, Colton & Aubrey Deaton, David Meyer III, Ashton Sgro, Ryan, Jared & Nathan Hackett; Brother-in-law David Weatherford & sister-in-law Sharon Weatherford, brother-in-law Darryl Weatherford, sister-in-laws Diane DaCosta & Jo-Anna Alvarnaz; as well as many cousins, co-workers, and lifelong friends. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the Urology Department, GI Department, and the Supportive Care Medicine Team at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida, as well as the Sapphire Team with LifePath Hospice for their dedication and care of Duane. The family will be having a private celebration of life at a later date.
