Obituary

Dorothy June McLeod Gay, aged 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2026 in Riverview. Born on February 22, 1932, Dorothy served others over her lifetime with great care and kindness.

Dorothy spent many dedicated years as a legal assistant before her retirement. She was a proud graduate of Wimauma High School and attended the Brewster Technical Business School in her early years. Her life was a reflection of her service to God, her joy in homemaking, and her devotion to family and friends. She was known for her cooking, decorative cake making, sewing, and her crocheted blankets. Dorothy brought laughter, comfort and entertainment to those around her. She was an amazing and gifted pianist, playing for her church, gospel quartets and countless weddings and funerals during her lifetime. She taught her family the importance of kindness, hard work and faith in God. Her faith was central to her life and she was deeply committed to her church, First Baptist Church of Riverview where she was a member for over 65 years. Dorothy was also a descendant of the early Central Florida Sweat and McLeod families.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Gay. She is survived by her daughters, Carole Meuret (Chris) and Cindy Delaparte (Al), grandchildren Kevin (Tameris), Lauren (Bobby), Nick (Courtney) and three great grandchildren.

A service to honor Dorothy's life will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Riverview. Visitation will begin at 10 AM followed by service at 11 AM. Dorothy will be laid to rest at Fellowship Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Riverview Building Fund or Lifepath Hospice Team Indigo in Sun City, Florida as a tribute to Dorothy's loving and generous spirit.
