Obituary

Donald F. Washington, 90, of Sun City Center, passed away peacefully to his heavenly rest on September 24, 2020 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, FL.  Don was originally from North Wales, Pennsylvania.  He moved to the Tampa Bay Area in 2004 with his wife, Edvena so they could be close to their twin daughters and their families.

Don was born in Gwynedd, PA to the late Joseph and Alice Washington.   He spend his school months in New York and his Summer's in Pennsylvania where he met his bride of 67 years.  He graduated high school from the New York School of Aviation Trades and joined the Air Force serving as an air plane mechanic.   Upon completion of his enlistment, he worked for Philadelphia Electric Company as a building mechanic for almost 30 years before retirement.

Don was a quiet, caring man whose hobbies included antique cars, planes, model HO trains, camping, photography and family activities.  He was also an active member of the North Wales Baptist Church serving as a Sunday School Superintendent, Summer Church Camp Director, Baptist Youth Fellowship Leader, and Deacon.  He founded the North Penn Model A Car Association and was a member of several antique car associations.

Don has always been a devoted husband and kind and caring father, always providing for his family.  Although Don was 90 years of age, Alzheimer's took his vibrancy for life way too soon. Yet, despite his slow and progressive decline of his body and mind, his respect and love for his family was evident and never waned. Our family bond remained unshakeable even to the end. We were grateful to see him pass in peace and contentment. He was a wonderful dad and husband, and we have been blessed to be so loved. We, along with many of his colleagues and friends will miss his serene nature and quiet sense of humor. Although physically gone, he will always remain alive within us. He always knew we loved him and always will. May he rest in peace.

Don is survived by his loving family; his wife of 67 years, Edvena of Sun City Center, FL; daughters, Donna F. (Larry) Williams of Riverview, FL and Denna (Junab) Ali of St. Petersburg, FL; sisters, Joann Ruffin; of Reston, VA and Patricia (Sylvester) Williams of Malvern, PA, grandchildren, Lawrence Tyler Williams and Kurban N. Ali, and many nieces and nephews.  Don is preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph and Herbert Washington.

Funeral services will be with the immediate family only.   The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the many family and friends who have expressed their condolences and to Season's Hospice of St. Joseph's Hospital for their wonderful care of our father and husband.
