Obituary

Donald Frederick Janego, age 82, of Owosso, Michigan, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026.

Don was born on September 30, 1943, in Owosso, Michigan, to his parents, John and Helen Janego. He attended Owosso High School, where he met the love of his life, Susan. Following graduation, Don worked at General Telephone Company before proudly serving in the United States Army from July 1965 to July 1967. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was awarded a Certificate of Achievement for his service as a Specialist Five, serving as a Personnel Accounting Specialist in the Adjutant General's Data Processing Unit, Army Pacific.

After leaving the military, Don worked for GTE Data Services for 35 years. Following his retirement from GTEDS, he remained active working at Manheim Auto Auction in Tampa.

Don and Susan were married on September 25, 1965, in Owosso, Michigan, and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past year. Together, they shared a life of adventure that took them to San Francisco, California; Honolulu, Hawaii; Fort Wayne, Indiana; and eventually led them to settle in Brandon, Florida, where they raised their three children Tim, Traci and Todd.

Don was a devoted Catholic and enjoyed many hobbies. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed a good round of golf, and especially loved participating in the Kool J Fantasy Football League with family and friends, something he always looked forward to and that brought him great joy. Beyond spending time with Susan, what Don loved most of all was gathering with his family. He also enjoyed cheering on his favorite teams: the Tampa Bay Rays, Buccaneers, and Lightning (Go Bolts!).

Don was preceded in death by his parents John and Helen, brother Bob and sister-in-law Sharon, as well as his sister Joanne and her husband Ron.

He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Janego; his children, Tim Janego, Traci (George) Taylor, and Todd (Lynda) Janego; his brothers, Bill (Jessica) Janego, Tom (Kathie) Janego and special sister-in-law Judy; his cherished grandchildren, Tara, Marlee, Trey, Tanner, Trent, and Mya; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Julia Jade, Clover Faye, and baby Drew, expected soon.

A Celebration of Don's Life will be held at Serenity Meadows on Monday, February 9, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, Tunnel to Towers Foundation, and LifePath Hospice.

The Janego family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Melech Hospice House, the team at Brandon Hospital, and all of their friends and family for their kindness, care, and support during this time.
