Dennis Robert Knapp, 79 of Valrico, FL passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 24, 2022 surrounded by his family.
Dennis was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on April 5, 1943. He was preceded in death by his Father Charles Knapp, Mother Beatrice (Briggs) Knapp and Sister Linda (Knapp) Garmany. He is survived by his wife, Martha Knapp, daughters Phyllis Chapman and Elizabeth Groves, Grandsons Nathan Berry and Zachary Groves, Granddaughter Mackenzie Groves and Great Grandchildren Makyla Berry, Veida Beck and Ira Gunther, brother Glenn Knapp, and sisters Mary Knapp and Pamela Simpson.
Dennis moved to St. Cloud, FL from Michigan when he was 15 years old. He graduated from St. Cloud High School where he was on the HS football team. After graduation, he was very involved in the community. He served in the Army Reserve, coached Pop Warner football and was elected to City Council. He was also employed full time by Florida Gas Company and served as President of the Union. Dennis moved the family to the Brandon/Valrico, Florida area in 1988, where he resided for 34 years. He worked his way up from a field serviceman to management for TECO Peoples Gas until retirement after 45 years of employment. Upon retirement, he was able to pursue doing what he loved most, fishing, travelling, spending time with his family and entertaining.
A memorial service/celebration of his life will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home located at 6919 Providence Road, Riverview, FL 33578. Hors D'oeuvres and refreshments will be served immediately after the service. There will be no graveside service as Dennis' final wishes were to spread his remains at his favorite fishing spots, Sebastian Inlet and Boca Grande. His family will also take him to another favorite place in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
