Obituary

Daniel Joseph Schommer, 77, of Valrico, Florida, passed away on September 4, 2026. He was born on April 30, 1949, in Neenah, Wisconsin, to Norman Schommer and Elizabeth Sherer Schommer.

Daniel was a man who knew how to build, repair, and make things work. From an early age, he possessed a natural talent and genuine passion for mechanics, a gift that would become a defining part of his life. He followed that passion and earned his associate degree from Oshkosh University before dedicating his career to working as a master diesel mechanic.

Outside of work, Daniel had a curious spirit and an appreciation for life’s adventures. He enjoyed planning for the future almost as much as he enjoyed seeing those plans come to life. He loved to travel, with Europe holding a special place in his heart, and he especially enjoyed the excitement and relaxation of cruising.

His home was more than just a place to live; it was a place where family came together. Daniel took great pride in caring for his home and creating a welcoming place for gatherings with the people he loved most. He treasured family time and the simple joy of having everyone together under one roof.

Above all, Daniel was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. On March 7, 1970, he married the love of his life, Barbara Schabo, beginning a beautiful marriage that spanned 56 years. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, adventures, and countless memories. Their enduring partnership was a testament to the commitment they shared and the life they created side by side.

Daniel was always there for his sons and their families, offering his love, support, and steady presence. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Barbara; his sons, Patrick (Jennifer) Schommer of California and Ryan (Diane) Schommer of Florida; his sisters, Gail (Jerry) Mielke and Susan Rohloff; ten grandchildren; three great grandsons, and many nieces and nephews who will carry his memory with them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Elizabeth Schommer; his brother, William Schommer; and his grandson, James Schommer.

Though he may no longer be here to share the next adventure, the memories Daniel created will remain a reminder of a life well lived, a love that endured, and a man who will be deeply missed and forever loved.
