Damon Daniel died on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at the Hospice Care Center in Tampa, Florida. He was 90 years old. He earned his bachelor's degree at David Lipscomb University, and his master's and doctoral degrees at the George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. Mr. Daniel was known by many names during his life . . . athlete, teacher, principal, coach, preacher, elder, son, brother, husband, uncle, father, grandfather, friend, Christian. He was bornin New Orleans, Louisiana and graduated from Fortier High School where he was a distance runner. He loved the water, boating, fishing and working with his hands. He was a teacher, principal and coach of the track and basketball teams at David Lipscomb High School (now Lipscomb Academy). He was the preacher at both the Reid Avenue church of Christ and the Acklen Avenue church of Christ, both in Nashville. He returned to New Orleans and began a career as a construction estimator and as the preacher for the Slidell church of Christ. He and his wife, JoAnne, retired to Gulfport, Mississippi, and later to a suburb of Tampa, Florida, where he served as an elder of the Bell Shoals church of Christ. Mr. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Aubrey and Alva Daniel, and his brothers Jerald and Emile Daniel. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, JoAnne (Starks) Daniel, daughter, Nancy Daniel, son, Kelly Daniel, daughter-in-law Cheryle Daniel and beloved granddaughters, Claire Daniel and Shelby Daniel. A private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort, Inc.
