Catherine Regina Lynch Pirog, age 97, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2025 in Sarasota, FL.
Catherine was born in Catasauqua, PA, to Alice and William Lynch on September 7, 1927. She married Francis Pirog on April 9, 1949. As a military spouse, she lived in Turkey, England, Nebraska, and Pennsylvania before moving to Fort Myers, Florida in 1973. Catherine was employed at the Villas Elementary School until she retired in 1990. She was a charter member of the Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord; an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion; Manager of the Religious Gift Shop; member of the Women's Guild, founder of the Treasures for Home and Family Thrift Shop; the National Audubon Society, S.W. Fl; The Nature Conservancy and the Calusa Nature Center. In 2011, she moved to Lithia, FL, to be closer to her daughter, Kathleen.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Francis C. Pirog, her parents Alice and William, her siblings Thomas, Daniel, William, and Philip, Mary, Alice and Norine, and her daughter, Carol Jean Pirog Waddell. Catherine is survived by her sons Thomas of Wasilla, AK, and Matthew (Maureen) of San Antonio, TX, and her daughters Jennie Shipman (Troy) of Littleton, CO, and Kathleen Suchora (Edward), of Sarasota, her grandchildren Justin Waddell, Colin Waddell (Mercedes), Colleen Pirog, Amanda Pirog (Timothy Bogart), Evan Pirog (Candace), Jack Suchora, Robert Shipman, and Kathryn Shipman, and her great-grandchildren, Rose Bogart and Parker Waddell.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Incarnation Catholic Church, 2929 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota, Florida. Inurnment will take place at 10 AM on Monday, March 31, 2025 at Bay Pines National Cemetery, 10000 Bay Pines Boulevard, Saint Petersburg, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Audubon Society, Incarnation Catholic Church, or Tidewell Hospice Sarasota.
