Marden, Carol Elizabeth (Smith), 69, of Brandon passed away on November 10, 2016 surrounded by her sister and friends in life. Despite her strong faith, cancer took her away. Carol fought the disease with spirit, grace, courageous strength, and fierce determination. She was an inspiration to all that knew her. Her smile and positive attitude would brighten any room. We are grateful to have experienced the love that she always so willingly shared. Her laughter, sense of humor and compassionate ways will remain in our hearts and memories as we continue to search for comfort. Our warrior was born December 26, 1946 to Matilda (McLeod) Smith and James W. Smith in Boston, Massachusetts. Carol had a most fulfilling career working in the financial sector, oil industry and research development. She participated in multiple community and group activities. Carol is predeceased in death by her beloved husband Robert E. Marden, the love of her life. Carol leaves behind her puppy dog and companion, "Ms. Paulie". She is survived by her sister Isabel L. Nickerson, several cousins, nieces and nephews. A special thanks to the excellent staff and doctors, especially Dr. Mark Tabor and Dr. Lawrence Berk at Tampa General Hospital and Dr. Nikhil Khushalani at Moffitt Cancer Center. Special thanks also to Mary Brooks, Henrietta Jalah, Tabitha Nichols and Zee Zenaida her personal caregivers who provided help in the home. St. Stephen Catholic Church in Valrico provided wonderful spiritual support and friendship. A visitation will be held at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home on Thursday, November 17 from 5-7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Valrico on Friday, November 18 at 12:00pm, interment to follow at Serenity Meadows Memorial Park.
