Obituary

Carol Windram Cira was born in Brooklyn to Arthur and Helen Windram on April 26. She passed away in Tampa on July 24, 2020. She was known for her quick wit, great sense of humor and her easy smile—traits she most likely picked up from watching Jackie Gleason, Sid Caesar and Imogen Coco. The memory of her smile will never be forgotten by those who knew and loved her.

Growing up she enjoyed summers in Coney Island with her younger sister Bettyann, then as a preteen moved to Miami with her family.  When she came into adulthood, Carol struck out on her own, and moved to Washington, D.C. She was forever proud of working as a staff member during the Nixon administration. Her next journey was marriage to Dan Cira, and then motherhood to her daughter Helaine.

Ready for the next adventure, Carol left DC to bring her daughter back to Florida, this time to Tampa. Her enjoyment of life never dimmed. For many years, she worked for OSHA, where she formed a lasting friendship with Joan Spencer and earned a reputation as fair, honest—and funny. At home, she danced, read mysteries, cheered on the Redskins, and watched all the new versions of Star Trek . She was a pro at navigating Disney World and EPCOT and perhaps held the record for most viewings of Captain EO in one day. She enjoyed a second act as an actress.  When Carol took up acting, dozens of artists and actors flooded her house to rehearse. She was a lover of the arts and spent her later years caring for her spunky but adorable chihuahuas Luna and Gavin. She took pride in her growing family and getting to know her granddaughter, which was especially evident during Christmas, her favorite holiday.

Carol loved boxing. This was part of her tenacious nature and how she fought for herself and others she loved. She was a fighter through and though until the end.

Carol is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Helaine Cira Levinson and Michael Levinson; her beloved granddaughter Harper Bowie Levinson; her sister and brother-in-law, Bettyann and Steve Cronk and her two chihuahuas Luna and Gavin.

The family extends their gratitude to the many loved ones who have shared their condolences and memories of Carol. A memorial will be held at a later date.
